Did you know you should only back up those files you’d rather not lose forever?
– some techdonkey, probably

Probably I should change this image. Hmm.
I can help you set up an ongoing system or do a mighty paroxysm of backing up everything everywhere all at once.
As the folks closest to me will tell you, I tend to have lot of detailed opinions about backups, archives and data. You may feel free to think of me as a broody hen, and of data as some carefully tended eggs.
But I’m not clucking around when I say in all my adventurous years of nerding while living, I have lost very little precious data to the vicissitudes of sudden leaking ceilings, theft, flood, and that mysterious electromagnetic pulse that hosed everything electronic in my house while I was on holiday in 2008.

Here, for example, is my very first computer drawing, done in the very early 90s using Windows 3.1’s Paint program and a scritchy roller-ball mouse. It was originally saved as a bitmap because JPEGS were not yet a thing in MS Paint. I don’t know why I’ve kept it for 33 years and counting, but never mind that; here it sits.
Presumably you possess data even more important to you than my splendid dog drawing. In which case, I can help you make sure that data sticks around into the future.
